Hello 2020 - Starting the New Year with a Bang

Wow, 2020 already!!! Are you ready to begin a new decade. I swear, the older I get, the faster time seems to speed away.

The New Year began with a family photo session on the 4th of January! What a way to start the new year. Relatives were visiting Raisa and her husband from Russia and they wanted family photos before they left. These sessions are always fun, and this family was no exception. Raisa did most of the translating for me and we had fun with the session. I did a quick turnaround with the photos so they could take them with them. Thank you Raisa for thinking of me....

Eleven days after the family photo shoot, I flew to Nashville, Tennessee for the annual Professional Photographers of America (PPA) Convention - ImagingUSA 2020. This is the fourth year I have volunteered to work the convention. It is a lot of work, from 6:30 am to sometimes 9:30 pm every day. There are over 10,000 professional photographers from all over the United States and about 20 countries in attendance. Volunteers have the option of attending any classes we want, when not working a session. One of the perks is getting to meet, and know, many of the top people in our industry. I learn new tips on posing, lighting, and business practices from the best. The networking alone is worth being there, and a part of the experience. The convention was held in the Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center in Nashville.

Walking around the Resort and Convention Center, either on a break or between sessions, you may see many classes that have taken the students and their models on location. It is a practical way to teach lighting and posing with hands on experience.

If you are a Professional Photographer, or thinking of starting in the business, you should go to Imaging. Imaging2021 will be in Gravevine, Texas at the Gaylord Resort and Convention Center.

Two days after I returned from the conference, I was scheduled to photograph the Miss Southern Maine Pageant in Buxton, Maine. It has been a couple of years since I photographed a pageant, and was really not looking for the job. Fortunately, as it turned out, the Director of the Pageant, Paige Lessard, messaged me and asked if I would consider doing it for her. I had taken Paige's Headshot a couple of years ago, which she used when she went to the National competition. I am very glad I agreed to be the official Photographer for the Miss Southern Maine Pageant
