Lighthouse Wedding

There are several benefits to my relationship with Connie Mills of "All In One Weddings". Getting to meet, and photograph, folks from from all over is at the top of the list. I must say the number one benefit is the great places I go when a photographer is needed for a wedding, or an elopement.

Marty and Lisa came from Ohio with the purpose of getting married in Maine. They had chartered the Hay-Val to take them to Burnt Island in Boothbay Harbor, Maine, wanting to have their ceremony in front of the Lighthouse, with great views of the sea. I would recommend Hay-Val Charters, and Capt Bruce White if you are thinking of an island wedding, or just a private cruise around the Lighthouses and rivers in the vicinity of Boothbay Harbor.

The day began like many others in July and August. It was raining when I left Auburn for the drive to Boothbay Harbor. After saying a few kind words to the Rain Gods, the skies began to clear. The closer I was to the coast, the better the weather. In Boothbay Harbor it was slightly overcast, but the seas were calm and the sun was shining. And, best of all no rain.

I can not stress enough the need for spare everything. As we were leaving the mainland behind, I chose to bring my LowePro rolling bag with spare cameras, lenses, memory cards, and batteries. A private charter affords you the opportunity of leaving the bag on board, but having it near in case of emergencies. Thankfully, the day went smoothly and backups were not needed. But, one never knows.

It is only a short boat ride to the dock on Burnt Island, where the caretaker, Elaine, met us. She as done a phenomenal job on the island. The Keeper's house looks great and Elaine has planted some very picturesque gardens, along with some relaxing picnic areas. John Portello, also of "All In One Weddings", was with us to officiate the ceremony and marry Marty and Lisa. He had brought the cake and champagne we would have after the vows were said.

It was a very nice, simple ceremony. Cake and Champagne were had by all, and photographs were taken at various points around the island. My favorites were in the Garden, with a rock wall and colorful blooms. Then it was time to return to Boothbay Harbor with the now married couple.

Congratulations, Marty and Lisa. Hope you had a wonderful stay in Maine, and many happy years to come.
