Elopements and Intimate Weddings

Elopements and small Intimate Weddings are a good part of my business in the summer and fall. I love these events as you can get to know the couple on a more personal level and in turn get some great photographs for their memories. Some of my clients find me through my website at www.jimwalkerphotography.com, others procure my services through a Wedding Planner that I contract my services through, All In One Weddings.

I was contacted on a Thursday evening and asked if I was available for a wedding in Naskeag, Maine on Saturday. I was available, but my first question was; "Where in the world is Naskeag, Maine?" Turns out it was an area of a town named Brooklin, Maine, several hours up the coast of Maine. I agreed to travel for this "Elopement".

Katheryna and Mikaela were a very interesting couple, with great stories. They met in Zurich, worked and lived in Amsterdam, and were moving to Scotland a few days after the wedding. The energy and love between this couple was immediately apparent. Mahlen Hsu, also of All In One Weddings, was the officiant.

They walked us down the long path to the water, where the ceremony would take place. It was a beautiful setting with the ocean water winking at us with the sun slowly sinking and islands looming off the coast. What a place for a wedding! We had met at the mothers house, and relatives owned the other two houses on the point. Katheryna and Mikaela went back up to the mothers house, and would walk down with the aunt's, uncle's and mother when everyone was ready. I began photographing as they all approached the beach, continued until we were back up the hill after the ceremony.

By the time we reached the house, the sky opened up and the rain came down in buckets, or so it seemed. Katheryna and Mikaela were not fazed, and the rain seemed to give them even more energy. I continued to photograph them in the rain, and at one point one of the uncles held an umbrella over me, protecting the camera. What a great time. I loved it and ended up with some really good photos that the ladies loved.
